Philosophy professor Christopher Kaczor outlined several reasons to oppose same-sex marriage when he was interviewed by the Catholic News Agency on the subject: divorce rates could rise if same-sex couples represent less stable marriages, since they cannot raise a biological child of both parents. On the other hand, Political Science professor Evan Gerstmann notes in an interview on KPCC that in states where same-sex marriage has been legalized, like Massachusetts, marriage and divorce rates remain unchanged.
