LMU Faculty Help Media Understand Elections

November 3, 2010

Election Day brings calls from news media for political experts, and LMU’s faculty respond.

Political Science professor Michael Genovese, who holds the Loyola Chair of Leadership and is the director of the Institute for Leadership Studies, was quoted by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News and Whittier Daily News on the issues the new Republican caucus will face in light of their gains at the polls.

Political Science professor Richard Fox spoke with reporters from the Daily Breeze and San Francisco Chronicle about the impact of more partisan media sources on national politics, and the impact of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Republican candidates’ chances in California.

Fernando Guerra, professor of Chicana/o Studies and director of the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles, remains a sought-after commentator on state and local politics. He has recently been quoted in the Daily News, Sacramento Bee, and LA Weekly, and on KCRW and Fox 11 News.

In the Economics Department, professor Andrew Healy‘s research on the connection between election results and irrelevant events — specifically, college football — turned up in an ESPN blog post and on an MSNBC interview with one of his co-authors (skip ahead to 29:40 in the video).
